These models are mainly based for car enthusiasts, they’re known for their speed, how their engine is made up, and their clean build overall. Following should be their more family related cars such as their SUVS, being the Porsche Cayenne and Macan that do offer additional models such as their sport versions or their hybrid version that are beneficial for the environment. After, would be their electric cars, starting growth towards a broader business expansion for the changes of evironment, Porsche has started creating electric vehicles such as the tacan or urning many models into hybrids. Finally would be Porsche’s F1 vehicle before it was removed from F1 due to the many disasters caused by the odd V12 engine that was put out onto the track, causing crashes, or just overall issues with the engine. Their product line works, they all provide their customers with what they expect from a Porsche car, being speed, and luxury.

Of the 272,162 Porsche cars produced in 2020, 92,860 were Cayennes, making it the most popular Porsche model that year. The Cayenne has remained one of Porsche's top-selling models in the USA since its first production in 2002.

1 — Chevrolet Corvette

Its solid chassis allows for even sportier driving, although most buyers will prefer its comfortable side to its playful character. And when it comes to fuel consumption, it remains a benchmark. All it lacks is all-wheel drive to combat SUVs.

The seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox is always up for an impromptu downshift via the steering wheel-mounted paddles, and the Sport and Sport Plus modes — the latter is part of the $1,360 Sport Chrono package — alter the throttle and transmission programming just enough to liven up the Macan’s character. You could drive the GTS in Sport mode all day, every day without it ever feeling high-strung, while Sport Plus is best left for tighter sections of winding roads where you’ll want to take advantage of its tendency to hold gears up near the engine’s redline.
The GTS’ powertrain is fine, but the chassis, steering and brakes really make this Macan feel special. Porsche’s adaptive air suspension comes standard and can lower the Macan by 10 millimeters in Sport and Sport Plus modes. Porsche’s Active Suspension Management (PASM) dampers are a perfect match to the air-ride system, delivering a smooth ride on broken pavement while keeping the GTS taut and composed on smooth stretches of canyon roads. Even with my tester’s upsized 21-inch wheels and staggered 265/40 front and 295/35 rear tires, the Macan never feels too stiff or too floaty for any given scenario. Honestly, the ride quality might be the GTS’ single best attribute.

My tester has Porsche’s Surface Coated Brakes (PSCB), which were kind of bad when they first launched on the Cayenne, but have since been reworked with new pads, better pedal feel and a more progressive stopping experience. Now, these brakes are quite good and reduce dust buildup on the wheels. Whether they’re worth the $3,490 upgrade over the perfectly fine standard steel brakes, though, is hard to say.
One option worth adding is Porsche’s brake-based torque-vectoring tech, for $1,500. This ability to modulate power from side to side at the rear axle improves the Macan’s cornering reflexes, making this already-sharp little crossover even more entertaining. You’ll never feel it working, but you’ll find it easier to keep up with smaller, more powerful sports cars on mountain roads.
Going for the GTS gets you the Sport Design exterior treatment, with black-painted exterior accents, LED headlights and a darker tint to the rear taillight bar. Inside, you get sport seats wrapped in leather, though you can have the whole cabin done up in Alcantara suede with Carmine Red stitching as part of the $4,790 GTS Interior Package. Like all Macans, the GTS is plenty comfortable for driver and passenger up front, but the rear seats are awfully small, even by compact SUV measurements.
The PCM infotainment tech is new but the rest of the interior is showing its age.

The Macan got a welcome tech upgrade as part of a refresh in 2018 and now runs Porsche’s Communication Management infotainment software on a 10.9-inch touchscreen. PCM continues to impress with its quick responses to inputs, online search tools, bright graphics and reconfigurable home screen. A Wi-Fi hotspot and Apple CarPlay are standard, but Android Auto is still a no-go. Too bad.
Look below the touchscreen, though, and you’ll find a sea of controls on the console — a reminder that the Macan is a bit older than Porsche’s other models. Sure, the rows of buttons are clearly labeled and easy to use, they just look outdated, especially compared to the flush, backlit designs of Porsche’s newer products.
I’d love to tell you about all of the Macan’s standard driver-assistance features, but as is the case with every Porsche, all the good stuff costs extra and is available a la carte. A surround-view camera is $1,200. You can buy lane-change assist and lane-keeping assist for $700 apiece, or just spend $1,380 and get them as part of a bundle. Adaptive cruise control comes in for an additional $1,170, and if you want freaking keyless entry, that’s an extra $800, too. Sheesh.
The Macan is hands-down the best-driving compact luxury SUV.

There are myriad options available for the Macan GTS, so its $73,450 starting price (including $1,350 for destination) is just that: the start. My Carmine Red tester is a German-spec model that Porsche flew over for testing, so I don’t have an exact price for the SUV you see here. Playing around to the best of my ability on Porsche’s configurator, I’m going to guesstimate an as-tested price of $94,000 out the door, give or take a few Benjamins.
If you compare price tags, the Macan GTS is sort of a hard sell against competitors like the BMW X3 M40i or Mercedes-AMG GLC43, both of which can be nicely equipped for less than the Porsche’s starting MSRP. But the Macan — especially the GTS — is the best-driving, best-balanced SUV of the bunch and handily punches above its weight. If performance is a priority, you definitely get what you pay for.

The 2020 GLC 43 is All the AMG SUV You Need
Here’s something you might already know: In any performance measure, the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 trounces the GLC 43. It’s more powerful. It handles better. And if you’re into SUV track days, it goes around the Nürburgring faster, too. Here’s something you perhaps didn’t know: None of that matters. The GLC 43’s performance is plenty.
Don’t get us wrong; at MotorTrend, we love absurdly powerful cars, especially from AMG. But for this type of vehicle, the 2020 GLC 43 doesn’t leave driving enthusiasts yearning for more. Seamlessly blending usable performance with everyday luxury, the GLC 43 offers compelling and balanced attributes, and it seems like a better value than its more muscular counterpart.
Based on MotorTrend’s 2017 SUV of the Year, the GLC 43 has upscale appointments shared among all variants of the award-winning compact crossover. That means a first-class cabin decked out in premium materials, which helps it feel like a step up from smaller Mercedes crossovers like the GLB. Over the GLC 300, interior upgrades include a leather-wrapped AMG steering wheel, illuminated door sills, and awesome color-changing ambient lighting. Optional red leather seating surfaces and carbon fiber trim panels upped our tester’s sporty ambiance.
You’d expect such niceties from a Mercedes, but those aren’t why you choose an AMG; it’s all about the engine. The GLC 43’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 smoothly spins out 385 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque. True, it may not be a “real” AMG unit—it’s basically a chipped version of what’s found in some standard Benzes—but it doesn’t lack gusto. A refresh introduced for 2020 bumped output over the 362 hp version we tested in 2017. That likely won’t significantly improve the 4.7-second 0–60 launch or 13.4 second, 104.3 mph quarter-mile times we recorded—as if those needed improvement. There’s a hint of lag if you stomp the accelerator off the line, and thrust tapers off in the final few hundred RPM before redline. Everywhere else in the tachometer’s swing, power feels abundant yet deployable.
Fuel economy isn’t typically the highest priority for sporty SUV shoppers, but convenience is a luxury. To wit, the EPA says the GLC 43 can cover 365 miles between fill-ups, while the GLC 63 does only 313. For those still wondering, the GLC 43 gets an 18/24 mpg city/highway economy rating, and the GLC 63 scores 16/22 mpg.
The nine-speed automatic transmission is geared to extract the engine’s bounty. Its tightly-spaced lower ratios let the V-6 flex its muscle, while the upper cogs keep revs low at highway speeds. Responses from the steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters aren’t instantaneous like those from the Porsche Macan’s PDK controllers, but not far off. In Comfort mode, shifts are practically imperceptible but deliver a satisfying punch in Sport +.
Those punches pack an extra wallop with the optional performance exhaust system. It announces upshifts with a loud crack and enlivens downshifts with a series of pops. Set in a gear, the system’s four black tips amplify the V-6’s raspy growl. This cacophony borders on obnoxious but adds excitement to any drive. If you’d rather not annoy passers-by, simply switch the system off and it returns to civility.
A quick comment about sound: Choose the sport exhaust, and skip the Burmester audio system. This premium speaker setup is sublime in some high-end Mercedes models, but, as in the GLE 450 that recently joined our long-term test fleet, it’s only OK in the GLC 43.
Like in lesser GLCs, the 43’s ride can be a little busy, made more so by the optional 21-inch wheels our tester wore. Nonetheless, the adaptive suspension’s road insulation is quite good. It communicates what’s going on beneath you without letting imperfections intrude. Naturally, it’s plushest in Comfort mode but gets brittle in Sport +. Sport mode provides a balance between stiffness and smoothness. In any setting, the body stays impressively level through corners, but you can feel its high center of gravity—this is a crossover, after all.
Correspondingly, the well-weighted steering is tight and accurate, though not exactly quick. Engaging Sport Handling mode is a must for spirited driving. Engine output is sent to the AMG-tuned 4Matic all-wheel drive system at a fixed rear-biased ratio, but default stability control quashes acceleration if you even think about getting on power too early. Sport Handling unlocks the ability to use throttle to alter your trajectory.
The GLC 43’s brakes are its main dynamic letdown. Its rotors and calipers are larger than the GLC 300’s, and in MotorTrend testing, prove to stop in a shorter distance. But, suffering from a mushy pedal and slow release, they do little to inspire confidence. Stopping requires undue effort, not because of pedal weighting, but lack of feel. That makes it tricky to meter braking force and carry speed through corners, and you have to press more, more—yikes, even more—to halt. On the spectrum of limo-stop smoothness to right-now clamping, there’s space for these brakes to shift towards the latter.
Regardless, like the GLC 300, the 43 makes a practical and enjoyable daily driver. Standard amenities include a power-operated cargo door, keyless entry with push-button start, and heated front seats. Headroom and legroom are ample, and its spacious cargo area expands with 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats.
Our tester was fitted with the optional 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, which complements a standard 10.3-inch MBUX infotainment touchscreen. Together they display a vast, reconfigurable range of information covering any and every vehicle function. AMG-specific readouts like real-time engine output and a G-force meter seem slightly out of place but enhance the experience. Likewise, the available AMG Drive Unit, which adds toggles with tiny color displays to the steering wheel for quick mode adjustments, is cool but unneeded given those changes can be made on the center console already.
With options like these added up, our GLC 43 tester totaled $76,450, an eye-popping increase over its $60,495 base price. Your corneas will bug further when you realize that the GLC 63 and its snarling 469 hp twin-turbo V-8 starts at $74,745. Nonetheless, a well-optioned GLC 43 offers more everyday enjoyment than a basic GLC 63.
Unless you equate excess to value, the GLC 43 is the better choice. The engine is any AMG’s core, and yes, the GLC 63’s has incredible power. No matter, the GLC 43’s produces more than enough to induce grins and obliterate speed limits. It might not have its stablemate’s clout, but it’s no disappointment. If you want a sporty and luxurious compact crossover, the GLC 43 is all the AMG you need.

It’s a long and meandering road that has brought us to the current trend for these compact crossovers. The desire for truck utility and car comfort isn’t new, and the first attempt to fill that niche came nearly a century ago in the form of the station wagon, which served families well for decades. But folks are fickle, and the ‘80s saw the wagon fall out of favor, as first the minivan, then the SUV became the go-to choice for families needing to haul kids, groceries, and gear.
Crossing from SUV to Crossover
But SUVs have some drawbacks to go along with their rugged appearance and capability. A vehicle that does well off-road doesn’t usually ride well on pavement, and heavy trucks with aggressive 4-wheel-drive (4WD) systems generally don’t get great mileage. Those are big compromises when the vast majority of SUVs never leave the pavement, and they provided the perfect opportunity for the arrival of a new station wagon in disguise—the compact crossover.

Fourth-generation Kia Sportage (2015 – present)
If you want to grab a compact crossover for less than 10 grand, you’re going to have to go back a few years, making a warranty more important than ever. With its impressive 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, you’re guaranteed to get more than a few years out of even a well-used Kia Sportage. And while the Sportage can be a little cramped when it comes to cargo space, your passengers will have more than enough room.

Second-generation Nissan Rogue (2014 – present)
The Nissan Rogue has been chastised for its lackluster engine and transmission, but things aren’t as bad as they seem. Auto journalists are notoriously picky about drivetrains, but if you give the Rogue a spin and aren’t bothered, you’ll be rewarded with a crossover that does nearly everything else right.

Fifth-generation Honda CR-V (2017 – present)
The Honda CR-V might be the most well-balanced crossover on this list. Look to the turbocharged 1.5-liter engine for a little extra oomph, as the base engine prior to 2020 isn;t strong, especially with a full load.

First-generation Infiniti QX30 (2017-2019)
A Mercedes GLA in disguise, the Infiniti QX30 wraps a Mercedes platform and powertrain in a unique and attractive shape. Discontinued for 2020, deals can be found on some examples from this car’s three model years, but pay special attention to the transmission. It seems neither Mercedes nor Infiniti got the shift points just right.

Second-generation Mazda CX-5 (2017 – present)
No crossover at this price point drives better than the Mazda CX-5, but that’s not why it’s being recommended. Handsome on the outside, classy and comfortable on the inside, the CX-5 will make you feel like you’re lapping at the edges of luxury.
